Shake Shack, Snooze and Osteria Marco could be headed to DIA, plan shows

Travelers passing through Denver International Airport’s B Concourse are one step closer to a tastier ride.

Future development details shared by DIA ahead of a City Council committee meeting, where it will start the approval process for a package of concession contracts, show a number of popular fast-food options and Colorado-centric sit-down restaurants filling the newly reworked space in the concourse’s large, central, second-floor mezzanine.

The plans include a Shake Shack, which will make this the third location of the popular East Coast burger chain announced for the state, behind RiNo and Highlands Ranch. Other fly-by concessions would include Jamba Juice, Qdoba and Peet’s Coffee.

For passengers who have time to kill (but hopefully not as much as they would need downtown), the plans call for popular brunch destination Snooze to occupy a corner. Across the way would be a second location of Frank Bonanno’s Osteria Marco; the original is in Larimer Square.

In the middle, the project shows an intriguing Veuve Clicquot bar for the non-beer drinkers. But don’t worry, this is Colorado, so the plans also show Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery would be renovated and replaced by a new Great Divide Brewery.

“A lot of our concepts at the airport are all about showing the best of Denver and the best of Colorado,” said Patrick Heck, the airport’s chief commercial officer.

Heck said the airport plans for about half of the new dining options to be open around the end of this year, and the other half in the middle of next year. The project will be rolled out in pieces, if the City Council approves the new contracts with concessionaires in coming weeks.

These changes come less than a year after the airport announced a major food overhaul of Concourse A. In August 2017, DIA excited Mile High foodies with plans to open a Sushi-Rama and a Denver Central Market with offerings similar to the popular RiNo location — Vero Italian pizza, roasted meats and veggies from SK Provisions, Curio bar cocktails and Izzio Artisan Bakery goods — in the A Concourse. The 4,090-square-foot Central Market inside the airport will replace Lefty’s Colorado Trail Bar and Grille, between gates A46 and A48, and is scheduled to be completed in the fall.

Also in 2017, DIA was ranked the top in the nation on the 2017 Airport Dining Scorecard released by RewardExpert thanks to popular spots like Root Down inside the C Concourse.

Something tells us there might be a few more people missing their flights out of DIA by the end of this year.
